Export controls apply to goods upon which the UK government has placed export licensing requirements. Typically these controls are placed upon military items and dual use items, such as chemicals, electronic mechanisms, laboratory equipment, steel tubes and many other items. In addition, goods considered to be ‘sensitive’ also have controls applied to them, which together with an increasing amount of sanctions imposed against overseas countries, make it very difficult for an exporter to know whether or not they need an export licence to export their particular product to an overseas market.

This WT@1 seminar on the 19th October, will aim to provide guidance and further information about the use of export controls to exporters and will focus on:

• What goods and activities are controlled
• How to determine if you need an export licence
• Types of export licence and the use of SPIRE
• Sanctions against overseas countries and their impact on export controls
• Support available to exporters

The ECO will be available to answer specific questions both during the seminar and also over lunch, when you will also have the opportunity to network with fellow international traders.

If you are exporting or looking to export dual use or ‘sensitive’ items overseas and would like to find out how your products can be affected by export controls, please contact Lorraine Holt at l.holt@hull-humber-chamber.co.uk
