Understanding how useful first-hand accounts are for people who may be considering scalp cooling, the company are on the lookout for ambassadors who can explain in their own words what it’s like and what impact the treatment had on their lives.

These stories will be featured on the Paxman Facebook page, with the aim of raising awareness and helping anyone who may be considering the treatment. Paxman also hope that these share experiences will help patients currently undergoing treatment who may be looking for advice and support.

Hair loss is a well-known side effect of many chemotherapy regimens, with many patients claiming it is the most traumatic aspect of their treatment. Scalp cooling provides the only real alternative to hair loss resulting in a high level of retention or complete hair preservation, improving patients’ self-confidence and creating positive attitudes towards treatment.

The first ‘Paxman Pioneer’ is Sally Maryon from Andover, Hampshire, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January. Following advice from medical experts, Sally wore the Paxman Scalp Cooling System before, during and after her chemotherapy sessions and in September, her CT scan revealed she was cancer free. Thanks to the scalp cooler, she kept most of her hair throughout her treatment, something that helped her remain positive and in her opinion, achieve positive results.

Speaking about the experience, Sally said: “Scalp cooling helped me look well, feel well and receive comments from people telling me I looked great. If you get told this frequently, it boosts your self-esteem. It also meant that I could keep cancer away from my home and my family, I could forget about it and carry on with normal day-to-day life. I know it isn't successful for everyone but I would encourage patients to give it a try.”

“Words cannot describe how grateful I am to Paxman; it meant so much to keep my hair. To sum up my journey this year - before you can dance on the rainbow, you have to walk through the rain.”

The Paxman Scalp Cooling System is the world-leading hair loss prevention system for chemotherapy patients. It has been used by over 100,000 patients, in 32 countries and is responsible for helping patients to keep their hair and retain normality during chemotherapy.

Richard Paxman, Managing Director of Paxman, said: “We receive fantastic feedback from patients, family, friends, medical professionals and many more on a daily basis. We would like to hand over to people like Sally so they can tell their story, share their experiences with and, in return, give others advice and support.”
