Eriez will be highlighting proven techniques to lower copper levels and boost the value of shredded ferrous output.

Developed for processors facing tighter mill specifications and increasing quality demands, the system is built around the Shred1® Ballistic Metal Separator. This advanced separator uses magnetic forces and ballistics to sort mixed shred into two clean streams: a high-value, low-copper #1 product and a conventional #2 grade.

At ReMA, Eriez will showcase an equipment demonstration line that replicates real-world operations. Material is fed into the Shred1, where it’s divided into premium and standard ferrous fractions. These are then conveyed to an Eriez Scrap Drum, where a deep magnetic field captures and concentrates on the ferrous materials for further refinement. Additional stages remove copper-bearing particles and nonferrous debris, illustrating how processors can progressively reduce copper content while preserving recovery and throughput.

The Shred1 system typically yields a premium ferrous product containing just 0.16–0.20% copper, enabling scrap yards to meet high-value market demands without sacrificing production efficiency.

“Processors today face the dual challenge of meeting chemistry targets and maintaining output,” said Mike Shattuck, Business Development Manager - Recycling, Eriez-USA. “This demonstration underscores how integrating complementary technologies in the right sequence achieves both goals.”

Eriez systems are trusted worldwide in recycling operations that handle shredded automobiles, appliances, and other complex materials. Whether used as standalone equipment or as part of a complete line, Eriez solutions improve recovery, minimize losses, and lower total processing costs.

Attendees can visit Eriez at Booth B4 during ReMA 2026, April 13–16 in Las Vegas, to explore how these technologies can enhance existing shred lines. For more information on Eriez’ full line of recycling equipment, visit http://www.eriez.com/recycling.
