In order to alleviate this problem, Merlin Flight Simulation Group have designed a hands free pilot/instructor station communications system upgrade, for their range of academic engineering flight simulators, eliminating the need for a headset and mic.

The first of these upgrades has been installed at The University of Swansea, UK. Jane Wallace, who is in charge of the simulation laboratory at Swansea said:-

"The new hands/mic free Merlin system works perfectly. We are delighted to be able to offer our students practical simulator experience in these difficult times".

Other universities in the UK and the USA have also now ordered the upgrade
