All entries had their aircraft design simulations flown and assessed by test pilots on UD’s MP521 simulator. Designs varied from existing aircraft to very modern new concepts (Manchester University, submitted a flying car which won the Innovation Prize, and their second team entered a quad tilt rotor military cargo aircraft). The prize for the Best Project Presentation was won by The University of South Wales.

The winner commented ‘The IT FLIES USA competition is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing Aerospace. The Merlin MP521 simulator provides students with valuable feedback to supplement the concepts discussed in the classroom. Having an experienced test pilot fly my design was incredibly valuable in getting helpful feedback on possible improvements.’
