Whilst the Chinese and Indian markets continue to grow, the prospects of their close neighbours should not be overlooked. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is made up of 10 countries which include some of the fastest growing economies in the world. By 2015, economists expect the ASEAN region to have 300 million middle class citizens with rising purchasing power, which will accelerate growth and increase consumer demand.

Singapore, despite being the smallest of the ASEAN nations, is the UK's largest trading partner in South East Asia and one of the largest export markets outside Europe.

Malaysia has strong ties with the UK which have been cemented through close historical and educational connections, a familiar commercial and legal framework and the widespread use of English.

Thailand takes a welcoming approach to UK companies. British goods enjoy an excellent reputation in the Thai market and UK exports of goods only to the country were £1.07 billion in 2010.

Vietnam’s GDP has doubled every 10 years since 1986 and its economic growth has been second only to China. Since accession to the World Trade Organisation in 2007, the country has opened up its markets to foreign businesses and investors.

Find out more about each of these markets at the event from our panel of experts who will provide you with:

The latest updates on the business climate and developments in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam; An overview of the opportunities available in a wealth of business sectors, including education and training, financial services, power, ICT, advanced engineering, construction and life sciences; Practical advice and support on how East Midlands companies can access the markets and capitalise on these opportunities; First hand experience from a company already trading successfully in the ASEAN region; Details of UKTI’s market visit to Singapore and Malaysia in October which could assist your business to experience the markets, meet the people, build contacts and potentially win new business.
