How Global Bearings Grew To Acquire The Largest UK Stock Of Gamet Bearings

“Going back to the mid 1980’s when the motor industry in the UK was booming, machine tool bearings were always being replaced”.

At the time, You could find a Gamet bearing in most of, if not all Colchester lathes, and you could find a Colchester lathe in most of, if not all factories.
Colchester Machine Tools was founded in 1897 in Colchester, Essex, England. The company initially started as a manufacturer of manual lathes. These early lathes were known for their quality and precision, which established the company's reputation in the field of engineering equipment.

Col.M.T and Gamet were both part of 600 group, so naturally all of the machine tools in production were being fitted with Gamet precision bearings, a great compliment to their production, as they built their reputation in the industry for quality and precision.

“At the time, there was A Gamet warehouse located in Colchester, but to buy from them was difficult so we used to use Gamet Precision in France for our orders”
“We would work directly with the car manufacturers, taking their enquiries for precision and tapered bearings in writing communicating it to straight France.”

Not an ideal process, but our only option at the time, until 1985, when we managed to get the deal with Gamet UK to officially become distributors.

I asked Nigel – Did your approach selling Gamet bearings change when you first became Distributors back in 1985?

He replied - “At the time, we were buying bearings in as of when we needed, not holding much stock as the orders would often vary. Once we got more familiar with our customers requirements, and with the products themselves, we began to hold stock and build our stores up to what it is today”

After 20 years of successful business, in 2006 we became the sole UK distributor for Gamet. A true testament to our success in the industry.
