Big congratulations to Bethany Fox - her poster won second prize in the Royal Society of Chemistry poster awards.

Bethany Fox, PhD Student at University of the West of England (UWE), attended the International Water Association (IWA) ‘Diffuse Pollution and Catchment Monitoring’ conference at Dublin City University, alongside CTG’s Justin Dunning, a keynote speaker at the conference.

Bethany presented a poster covering her research so far, undertaken as part of the NERC CASE studentship award in association with Chelsea Technologies Group. Her poster, titled ‘Fluorescence technologies for water quality and ecosystem health monitoring’ won second prize in the Royal Society of Chemistry poster awards at this international conference. Well done Bethany!

Bethany Fox is working on a CASE Award at the UWE under Professor Darren Reynolds exploring applications of Tryptophan fluorescence to environmental water quality monitoring. As part of her phD, Bethany will spend three months each year at CTG receiving intensive industrial training and developing new water quality sensors. CTG is part of a team with UWE and the University of Bristol who won this prestigious CASE award from NERC.

This Award will fund Bethany over 4 years. The project entitled ‘The development of a fluorescence sensor for monitoring microbial processes of freshwater systems’ will address the urgent need for real-time in situ monitoring of the microbial health and status of freshwater systems (surface and ground).
