SuperCatex Team Arrives In Paradise

After the hectic week in Addis Ababa, where over 3,000 sales leads were gained for British Exporters, the SuperCatex team adjourned to the Simien Mountains as guests of entrepreneur Nick Crane

Nick was a previous regular customer of SuperCatex with his company Euroquipment before selling to the Manutan group in 1999.

He decided to return to Ethiopia, where he used to work for an international charity in the late 70’s, and build a mountain lodge hotel, set in the middle of National Park that affords World Heritage status.

The Simien Mountain Lodge Hotel sits some 3,260 metres above sea level with stunning views of the escarpment. The air is thin and the lungs have to work overtime, but the ability to see Gelada monkeys, Jackals, Hyenas and if you’re lucky a leopard or two, make the breathless climbs all worth while.

It was Nick who convinced the organisers of SuperCatex to bring the event to the thriving market of Ethiopia. That recommendation was well founded as several exhibitors have already been asked to quote on equipment for various infrastructure projects. On the first morning one exhibitor, JEC Industrial Products received an order for £20,000 and is also quoting on £15,000 of Electrical Components that are not available locally and must be manufactured to British Standard.

Running SuperCatex events is physically very hard work – especially for someone getting on in years. But sitting here at over 3,000 metres in glorious sunshine makes it all worth while.

Shame we have to leave tomorrow, but there’s still a chance to have a beer or two this evening in the highest bar in Africa.
