HPC SafeDon Cuff 1st Gloves Dispensing System
Due to growing concerns over hospital acquired infections, HPC Healthline has been driving the way gloves are perceived. “The aim is to bring gloves back from being a commodity product to a medical device”. With 90% of infectious organism being transmitted through the hands of medical staff, gloves in traditional packaging, within a hospital environment, are touched continuously and harbour bacteria. This results in up to 50% of the content of a traditional box of gloves being unclean and already contaminated before getting into contact with patients.

HPC Healthline has introduced within the UK NHS and the wider healthcare community its SafeDon Cuff 1st gloves dispensing systems. Available in a range of box formats to dispense cuff 1st each time. Independent studies proved that by only touching the cuff and avoiding the rest of the glove and the dispenser, it could reduce the spread of bacteria by up to 96%.

It was soon realised that the dispensing system releasing gloves one at a time significantly reduced wastage and helped speed of donning. The packing layering technique also help reduce packaging, storage, transportation costs due to its compact format and therefore offers positive environmental impact too.

SafeDon Cuff 1st gloves are available in Nitrile as well as Latex and Vinyl examination gloves to answer most requirements. Hospital and private medical trials have been conducted and sites are converting to SafeDon gloves on the basis of:

-reduction in cross contamination up to 96%: independent studies have demonstrated that gloves dispense cuff first, stop users from touching the glove’s most critical surfaces: thumb, fingers and palm. It also proved that gloves dispense individually, prevent the potential contamination of other gloves in the box. Test results identified up to 96% reduction of bacteria on the gloves and box itself when using SafeDon Cuff 1st

-reduction in gloves wastage up to 10%: internal glove trials over 130 hospital wards in the UK have demonstrated a reduction of up 10% in gloves usage due to reduced wastage. Individual cuff first dispensing prevents gloves from sticking together and coming out of the box together resulting in gloves falling on the floor or being discarded unused

-reduction in gloves packaging, storage, distribution and therefore cost up to 50%: the SafeDon packing layering technique compacts the gloves together allowing to pack more in a traditional box, this in turns helps reduce packaging, storage and transportation costs up to 50%

HPC Healthline is now offering SafeDon poly-refill packs instead of cardboard dispensers to reduce the use and cost of cardboard recycling. The layering technique ensures the gloves are sturdy enough to even consider switching the outer carton traditionally containing gloves by a polypack outer.

Traditional gloves are currently manually packed into boxes. SafeDon gloves are packed online by specially designed machineries that interleave and fold gloves cuff first. SafeDon gloves are the cleanest non-sterile gloves available on the market to date. Through investments and increase in market shares, HPC Healthline intends to further develop the SafeDon online process to a fully automated process and therefore produce a completely untouched glove.
