Casella has upgraded its popular Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge (TBRG) to create the STORM Guardian, an integrated design for reduced cost and ease of installation, which features a built-in logger with GRPS and lithium batteries that last for up to seven years.

The specialist in occupational health and environmental risk measurement solutions, which has experienced a 30% rise in demand for its popular TBRG sensor over the past couple of years, expects to see continued growth in this area of its business, with increasing need to monitor rainfall, especially for flood prediction.

Comments Neal Hill, Product Marketing Manager at Casella: “STORM Guardian is an early warning system designed to reduce the risk to lives from the increasing incidence of high intensity rainfall and flash flooding. Our previous TBRG has been used by international met agencies and companies who integrate them into their own telemetry and hydrology systems.”

He adds: “STORM Guardian takes the technology to another level. It is quick, easy and inexpensive to install and it beats hands down competitive units that have components located outside the bucket and use lead acid batteries that require a solar panel.”

The new, fully integrated upgrade, which is based on the well proven Environmental Agency endorsed TBRG sensor, is built from rugged, non-corrosive materials in order to withstand the elements.

Using the Timeview website, users of STORM Guardian may collect data and set up their logger remotely from anywhere. Timeview also shows network sites from Google maps, has flexible graphical display features and GPRS connectivity.

In addition to monitoring rainfall distribution and intensity, STORM Guardian provides accurate and precise measurements for weather forecasting, water resources operation, and environmental protection and improvement.

Established since 1799, Casella’s market leading products are exported world-wide through an extensive network of distributors and agents. A truly global business, the rapidly expanding company has offices in North America, India and China.
