The news follows views CBI Director-General John Cridland that boosting the UK’s export performance is essential for sustained economic growth.

In a UKTI Export Week workshop, Digital Services Manager Chloe Christey-French from Vivid Creative (http://www.vividcreative.com/blog/exporting-essentials-the-highlights/) branding and web design agency , and Managing Director Dan Kavanagh from Ignition Search (http://www.ignitionsearch.co.uk/) internet marketing agency, presented to businesses on how to market their businesses internationally.

Ms Christey-French said: “We looked at the design and visual considerations that businesses need to make and we also looked at their marketing channels, how they can utilise social media and the availability of language translations.”

Ms Christey-French added: “There were lots of questions and the feedback was very positive. It gave the region’s businesses a much needed boost. “

At the event which was filmed and held at Vivid’s offices in Sheffield, (http://www.vividcreative.com/blog/exporting-essentials-the-highlights/), Managing Director Dan Kavanagh said it is a `fear of the unknown’ that is holding Yorkshire companies back but that it need not be this way.

Mr Kavanagh reassured attendees that securing targeted traffic via the search engines offers an economical and quick way to achieve international exposure.
He said: “Achieving a high ranking for targeted terms through paid search gives businesses a fast initial way to approach new countries.”

“Businesses need not be daunted by any differences in language – English is still one of the most highly spoken languages in the majority of countries and it is often the first language in, for example, Germany, for trade. If a campaign works in English then why not try it in the local language next?“
Ignition Search has a number of clients who it is working with internationally.

Its’ Director of Search Jon Colegate said: “As qualified professionals we can get businesses up and running internationally in seconds. It is a quick way for businesses to dip their toes in the water without the costs of travel or exhibitions. You can go multi-lingual, target parts of your business or different areas of different countries.”

Attendees at the event, which was in partnership with Talking Heads Multilingual Services and the SYITC, a partnership of Barnsley and Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield Chambers of Commerce, ranged from businesses starting out to those already working in other countries.

The event was double its initial capacity, and both a video (http://www.vividcreative.com/blog/exporting-essentials-the-highlights/) on the workshop and a blog on international marketing are also available from Vivid to help businesses.
