Top Choice For New Bluewater Events Venue

BSG Trench CoverThe Events Venue has been designed by internationally renowned architects and exhibition experts Denton, Corker Marshall and will be centered around a 32,000 sq ft (3,000m2) plaza accessible from the Thames Walk through the existing Water Circus.

It will include 43,000 sq ft (4,000m2) of catering/restaurants space, and a number of new stores. Once complete, the Events Venue will allow Bluewater to provide a year round, consumer oriented leisure experience and will function as a major attraction in its own right. With millions of visitors each year, all products installed, needed to be able to cope with a large amount of people traffic.

Primary contractor BAM Construction Ltd, appointed BSG to supply trench covers, purpose designed and manufactured for the project. As Leigh Wilkinson, the Project Surveyor for BAM construction – which recently handed over the £60m Bluewater Events Centre – explains; “We approached BSG following a great project they had completed for the NEC in Birmingham, where they created bespoke replacement trench covers. BSG has impressed us on the Bluewater project at every stage – from the design, to the fabrication and right through to the delivery of the covers. They were remarkable and I would certainly recommend them for future projects.”

BSG supplied around 1320 trench covers which are used to conceal and protect all the service cables and facilities to provide power connections throughout the new venue. Each cover comprises a substructure of BSG’s open steel flooring, with a top sheet incorporating a sliding flap for access to the trench below. The cover needed to be as light as possible, but at the same time, cope with the varying weight loads that the floors are subjected too.
