Mr. Bateman officially took up his duties on 13 October 2011 when Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev accepted his credentials but before he left the UK to take up his new role, Mr. Bateman was very keen to see one thing for himself, the purpose-built London Taxi and it’s manufacturers, The London Taxi Company who are helping to revolutionise the transport network and more specifically the taxi service in the Baku.

Meeting with Matthew Cheyne, International Market Development Director at The London Taxi Company and John Russell, CEO of parent company Manganese Bronze Holdings, Mr. Bateman was given a tour of the flagship showroom service facility in Islington, London whilst being shown how the purpose-built and iconic features of the current TX4 model attracted The Baki Taksi Company.

“The UK is already a large trading partner of Azerbaijan”, said Mr. Bateman, “and the TX4 will be a highly visible reminder of this. I look forward to seeing them on the streets of Baku and knowing that our taxi service is being transformed into one that is desirable as The London Taxi Service.

Mr. Bateman did not have to wait long. At his official welcome party held at the Baku Hilton, two London Taxis were on display at the reception hall for all to see.

500 of the 1,000 London Taxis ordered by The Baki Taksi Company have been delivered to Azerbaijan and are already operating on the streets of its capital city. The remaining 500 vehicles are planned to arrive before the end of 2011
