Dr Barber has been awarded a prestigious Medical Research Council (MRC) PhD studentship for a Dental Research Project.

As winners of the prestigious MRC Industrial CASE Competition 2011, the award provides full funding for a student from the UK or EU for three years, to pursue a research project conducted by Dr Barbour in partnership with Mr Graham Mayoh, Kemdent’s Sales & Marketing Director.

The project concerns the development of an innovative dental filling material that contains antimicrobial nanoparticles. In a recent nationwide study, it was found that 41 per cent of five-year-olds and 54 per cent of eight-year-olds showed clear signs of tooth decay. It is hoped that this new filling material could halt the development of decay in affected teeth, particularly in children and young adults, resulting in fewer, smaller fillings and less time in the dentist's chair.

Research and Development of new products continues to be an important factor in Kemdent’s success and their Laboratory team are currently working on development of new acrylics and cross-infection control products. Kemdent continues to enjoy a long-term alliance with the Bristol University Dental School.

Visit Kemdent at the IDS Exhibition in Cologne, 22 - 26 March on Stand 028 in Hall 04.2, Aisle M, and take advantage of our special offers.
