Each of the Student teams gave a 10 minute project presentation, followed by their aircraft designs being flown and assessed by the test pilot judges on one of Swansea University’s MP521 simulators.
Dr. David Philpott judged the presentations. The flying judges were Gordon McClymont and Rhys Williams.
Entries were varied as ever, and of a high standard this year. The joint winners were the two teams from Swansea University who had designed an aerial firefighting aircraft capable of carrying and dropping 2000 kg. of water or fire-retardant material, whilst also having the capability to deploy smoke jumpers and fire fighting equipment. One of the Swansea teams also won the prize for the best project presentation.
The most innovative design prize was won by the supersonic business jet design of University of South Wales student, Adam Cleaver.
Great to see the aero students learning from the test pilots!
