B & V Water Treatment, the company behind Absulox, a chemical which kills harmful microbes such as Legionella, Pseudomonas and E-coli, will launch ChemWatch this spring.

The fully automated monitoring system, which will be given its first public airing at the Facilities Show on May 15 -17 (stand M64), is suitable for cooling water, boiler water, process water and waste water treatment systems and will be available at four levels, each of which can be tailored to suit the organisation’s requirements.

The smartphone, tablet and computer accessible system texts or emails details of issues, tells the operator exactly where to look to identify the problem and explains temporary actions it has taken to amend the water treatment and protect the water system from corrosion, scale or microbial contamination.

The ground-breaking capacity of this system is its proactivity, which enables it to implement ‘contingency strategies’ in the event of an identified fault or negative trend, rather than just generating an alarm.

This is achieved by monitoring several parameters and analysing the total status of the plant. As a result it can even identify water leaks, detect faulty equipment such as dosing pumps, adjust chemical doses or even shut down the system entirely if necessary.

It tracks water and fuel consumption, chemical usage rates, and total dissolved solids and keeps records of levels, which can be useful proof of control in the case of a Legionella outbreak in the area.

A time scheduling programme enables the operator to select items of equipment to be switched on and off automatically at pre-set times and days and is programmable for a year ahead.

All monitored data is recorded and available in various detailed formats including multi data graphs looking at four parameters at a time such as pH levels, conductivity, silica and phosphate against the same time frame, to look for patterns and cause and effects, and ultimately manage Key Performance Indicators

B & V MD Simon Ward explained: “ChemWatch is the closest thing to a having an on site round the clock B & V technician on duty. Not only does it keep an incredibly accurate record of key data it also improves site efficiency and therefore offers an excellent return on investment. The cost of manually monitoring systems and the potential cost of repair and replacement of expensive plant vastly outweigh the cost of our system.”
