The Littlehampton based company is the UK’s leading drilling rig manufacturer and has over 140 years experience operating in the water well drilling sector. Nearly 90% of the company’s sales revenue is through exports and proves that although the UK economic climate is poor the export market is very prosperous. Now part of the Energold group, Dando has in 2011 been supplying a number of its drilling rigs for water well drilling projects around the world particularly to nonprofit organisations providing clean drinking water in developing countries.

Dando recently supplied one of its 10 ton water well drilling rigs- the Watertec 10- to YME, a Norwegian humanitarian organization specialising in work in water, sanitation and vocational training. The group has for many years been building water wells in Somalia and recently purchased its first drilling rig for use in the country’s local communities. 70% of the country’s population lack adequate access to drinking water, especially in rural areas where 91% do not have this privilege. Due to the high saline content in Somalia’s highest aquifer, the rig is required to drill into a deeper aquifer in order to obtain clean, uncontaminated water. Taking into account these conditions, Dando’s truck mounted Watertec 10 with a drilling capacity of 300 metres was considered the perfect choice.

Further down the East African coast Dando also supplied another four of its Watertec 10 drills for a Japanese grant aided contract in Mozambique. Two of the rigs will be used in Maputo, the country’s largest city and capital while the other two will be based in Gaza province providing clean water to the country’s inhabitants.

Dando drilling rigs are also used in UN water projects around the world. Most recently Dando shipped out three of its 24 ton drilling rigs- the Watertec 24- to Darfur, Sudan for a UN and African Union funded water well drilling project.

Although the company supply many hydraulic drilling rigs Dando also produce cable percussion drills. They are about to ship a Dando 3000 Buffalo to the UN in Liberia to be used for supplying water to refugee camps along the border with Ivory Coast.

As well as being successful in the water well drilling rig market, Dando is also a leading global supplier in the mineral exploration and geotechnical drilling sectors and will look to build on the success it has had in these markets for 2012.
