Handling oil drums and barrels can be dangerous work at the best of times ...

Taking chances by not using the right handling equipment by moving drums manually or balanced on a pallet or on the forks of a forklift truck will increase the chances of an accident.

Drums can be heavy, often more than 200kg, and their shape makes them difficult to handle in a secure way. Not only is there a risk of injury to the operator but also to work colleagues, contractors and delivery staff on site. Common injuries are crushed fingers, pulled backs, broken toes and feet. The drums, their contents and nearby equipment are also at risk of damage.

The cost of a chemical spillage in your place of work
In addition to physical damage, spillages of hazardous substances can cause injury, health issues or an expensive clean-up with disruption to operations.

You may have a chemical spillage plan in place but if the emergency services and the Environment Agency are also involved then the direct cost of the clean up will be substantial.

You also risk the possibility of prosecution and fines running into £100,000s, particularly if a spill ends up in a nearby river or water supply, not to mention the damage to your company's name locally and with customers.

All of these problems can be avoided by using the correct drum handling fork truck attachment or pedestrian drum handling attachment in your workplace.
